Do you know St. Phoebe? In the Letter to the Romans, St. Paul commends St. Phoebe to the Christian community in Rome, introduces her as a deacon (diakonos) of the church at Cenchreae, and asks that they “receive her in the Lord” (Romans 16:1-3). St. Phoebe was a woman of great courage and generosity who answered God’s call to minister to God’s people. On Tuesday, September 3, at 7 p.m., our community at St. Basil’s, in collaboration with the Mary Ward Center and the Magdala Colloquy will celebrate St. Phoebe, the Deacon. Our joyful gathering will feature Evening Prayer, inspired preaching from a woman in ministry, and a community conversation celebrating the gifts and service of women in the Church. All are welcome! Registration helps us plan for refreshments – register here: https://forms.office.com/r/c0ZjBhdFw2. You can contact JoAnn Lopez (joann.lopez@utoronto.ca) with questions.
