FIRST COMMUNION AND FIRST RECONCILIATION
Children ages seven (Grade 2) and older are invited to prepare for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. At St. Basil’s, the preparation for these Sacraments takes place within the context of our children’s catechetical program called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
The program offers children a comprehensive experience of the Word of God and the liturgical experience of the Church. This encounter between the child and God takes place within a child centered environment called the Atrium. It is here that children journey with Jesus whom they learn to recognize and celebrate in the bread and wine.
Confirmation is the sacrament that completes a child’s initiation into the church. Children may receive the sacrament as of Grade 7.
St. Basil’s runs a Confirmation program on an alternate year basis. The program offers children a comprehensive experience of the Word of God, the liturgy of the Church and the living of their baptismal call as priest, prophet and king. The Confirmation program is offered every alternate year..
Both programs (First Reconciliation/First Communion and Confirmation) also support parents in their role as their child’s primary educator in the faith. The program calendars indicate the dates when parents also gather together to learn and reflect how to best accompany their child in this relationship with Jesus.
