An Update: Family of Faith Funds – AV Project

A project towards which I would like to direct these remaining Family of Faith funds is an upgrade and expansion to the sound system (including a new assistive listening system) and the electrical infrastructure supporting it. The project also would add video capabilities. Because this audio-visual (AV) project was not in our Family of Faith case statement, I wanted to bring it to your attention before using these funds for it. The parish and finance councils are in support of doing so. If you have any concerns about directing funds towards the AV project, please contact me in the next week or two. Thank you for your financial contributions, which make projects like this possible!

Around 2014, the Archdiocese of Toronto kicked off the Family of Faith Campaign to raise money for all sorts of purposes throughout the archdiocese including projects at individual parishes. Our parish’s case statement, which specified the scope of projects, included renovating the basement washrooms and kitchen, repairing the plaster and repainting the church interior, restoring the organ, and installing protective coverings for the stained-glass windows. All of that has been completed with the generosity of parishioners, and we still have approximately $79,000 of campaign funds to use!

UPCOMING EVENTS & NEWS

Loose Handrails at Entrances

The University of St. Michael’s College has arranged for a contractor to repair the loose handrails at the east church entrance, which wrapped up this week. Contractors have now moved on to the West Entrance which is closed while stones are repaired. As always, the parish office entrance will be open during all Mass times.

We thank you for your patience as you navigate the stairway closures.

Updates to Outreach Ministries
While our Outreach Ministries are on their summer break, we’re taking the opportunity to reorganize our meal services beginning in September. We will be shifting meal services to Monday and Tuesday only, in order to be able to assess the situation with dining-in. For the most part, patrons seem eager to return to using the hall, but it is difficult to know for sure until the changes are in effect how many people will feel comfortable dining indoors. Our new format introduces ‘timeslots’ where a limited number of patrons can be accommodated indoors at the same time. During this transition period, we will still be offering a to-go option for those who do not wish to dine indoors just yet.

Opportunity: Outreach Volunteers
Drivers:
We are currently looking for a few volunteers who are willing to help with regular trips to Costco for our Outreach Ministries. Shopping trips will be made with Veronica, our Coordinator of Outreach Ministries, and last a few hours. Ideally, this volunteer has access to a mid-sized SUV to be able to accommodate all of the supplies we need in one trip!

Team Leads:
We are currently looking for a few volunteers who are willing and able to help support our Outreach Ministries beginning in the fall. Ideally, this volunteer would be capable of leading a small team on an occasional basis, and help lead service in the kitchen during exceptionally busy times.

Upcoming 2nd Collection: Canadian Missions
There will be a second collection for Canadian Missions on August 13-14. Catholic Missions in Canada and the selected dioceses in Northern Canada will benefit from your generosity to sustain and extend the Catholic faith to isolated, poor and hard-to reach mission areas in our country.

Thank you for your support of this important work!

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)

Are you, or someone you know, interested in joining the Catholic faith? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or R.C.I.A., is the process by which:

  • a person who is not a baptized Christian can become Roman Catholic;
  • a person who is baptized in another Christian denomination can be received into the Roman Catholic Church; or
  • a person who was baptized in the Roman Catholic church can complete their initiation through the sacrament of Confirmation.
