A FRATELLI TUTTI READING GROUP: Session 1
February 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST
GROWING IN LOVE OF NEIGHBOUR: A FRATELLI TUTTI READING GROUP
Join us on Monday, February 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd for a four-session discussion group reflecting on and reading Fratelli tutti, and exploring how the encyclical calls us to better love and serve our neighbours in our ministries, communities, and personal lives.
Pope Francis introduces Fratelli tutti—his recent encyclical on fraternity and social friendship—with these powerful words:
“It is my desire that, in this our time, by acknowledging the dignity of each human person, we can contribute to the rebirth of a universal aspiration to fraternity. Fraternity between all men and women.”
This isn’t an impossible dream. Fratelli tutti fundamentally describes a Catholic way of living in the world: in universal solidarity, in loving our neighbour, in serving one another… a balm for hatred, division, and isolation. It has something to say to each of us, about how we are called to live a life of love and service. Let’s discover that something together.
In these four sessions—open to all but especially for those actively volunteering in ministry and other service works—we will explore how Fratelli tutti specifically inspires us to servant-leadership in our communities, and living in solidarity with the entire human family.
Together we will answer the question one writer posed in summarizing the message of the encyclical: What are the great ideals but also the tangible ways to advance for those who wish to build a more just and fraternal world in their ordinary relationships, in social life, politics and institutions?
