22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

DINING IN THE GOSPEL OF ST. LUKE By Fr. Ken Decker, CSB Today and tomorrow many families will be gathering for the celebration of Labour Day weekend.  Food and drink are always at the centre of these family gatherings.   Try calling the family together without food and drink.  Few are interested.  Offer food and you […]

Sunday TV Mass

For the past 30 years the Sunday Mass for the TV community has been on CFTO Toronto. Starting on Sunday, September 9, this Mass will no longer be broadcast on CFTO. Bundle up Weekend

Mark your calendars! On October 27 & 28, the Society of St. Vincent dePaul will have a truck on site for Bundle Up Weekend. Volunteers will be on hand to collect donations by the truck before and after all weekend Masses. For a list of items that are accepted, please visit www.ssvptoronto.ca

Registration: First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation

Registration is now open for our children’s sacramental preparation programs. First Reconciliation and First Communion: Begins on October 14. The children gather weekly from 11:30-12:30 in the Atrium. At 12:00pm the children, accompanied by their catechists, join the larger Church community for the Eucharistic portion of the Sunday liturgy. The program extends after First Communion (May 12) to Pentecost (June 9), allowing the children time to deepen this new aspect of their relationship with Jesus, Bread of Life. Confirmation: Begins on November 25. The children gather weekly from 4:00-5:00 in Gabriel Room. At 5:00pm the children, accompanied by their catechist, join the larger Church community for the Eucharistic portion of the Sunday liturgy. The program ends on Pentecost (June 9). To help us defer the costs of the programs, there is a $100.00 registration fee, payable by cash or cheque at the start of the program. Cheques can be made payable to: St. Basil’s Catholic Parish. This financial commitment can be reduced or waived to meet your family’s budgetary concerns. PARENTAL COMMITMENT: Both program also support parents in their role as their child’s primary educator in the faith. The respective program calendars (found on our website) indicate when parents also gather together to learn and reflect how to best accompany their child in their maturing relationship with Jesus. For additional information or register your child, contact our Director of Family Ministry: marilena.berardinelli@utoronto.ca.

Serving the Poor

On the weekend of October 6-7, there will be a second collection for the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. There are envelopes in the weekly envelope packets, and there will be envelopes in the pews and at the back of the church. This fundraising helps provide food, clothing, beds, and other key supplies to more than 200 of the neediest households in our parish. We visit our neighbours in their homes to help those with mental and physical infirmities, shut-ins, abused women, single parents and children, students, new Canadians, and anyone in need. The Society is run by volunteers, and there is virtually no overhead cost. More than 98 cents of every dollar goes directly to the needy. The parishioners of St. Basil’s have always generously supported this campaign, and as a result, our St. Vincent de Paul team is one of the most active in the city. Thank you for your continued generosity.

Volunteering Opportunities

As the school year begins, we are looking to expand our volunteer base for some parish groups. We are looking for a new Team Lead for our parish Coffee Hour group, team members for Out of the Cold on Tuesdays, Liturgical Ministers for the 4:30PM Sunday Mass, as well as new choristers for the St. Basil’s Singers. If you’re interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities, please reach out to Michael after Mass, or send him a message via email michael.pirri@utoronto.ca or (416) 926-1300 x.3210

Registration: Catechesis for Children Aged 3-9

Registration is now open for our children’s program: The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. The Program extends from October 15- May 5, 2019. A one year commitment is required and weekly attendance is strongly encouraged. A detailed program calendar is available on our website. The following time slots are available: GROUP A (3-6 years old): 9:00-10:00 GROUP B (3-6 years old): 10:30-11:30 GROUP C (6-9 years old): 11:30- 1:00 Children meet in the Atrium – a purposely designed space that supports the growing relationship between God and the child (located in the Church’s lower level).
