I am honoured and humbled to have been called to serve as Pastor of St. Basil’s Parish in light of its rich history and the many wonderful Basilians who have served here.  Being in the heart of Toronto on the campus of the University of St. Michael’s College, the parish has a special role to provide a place of beauty, peace, and prayer in the midst of much busyness.  The parish, however, is nothing without the people who form the community, united by the Holy Spirit with Christ at the centre.

St. Paul wrote, “The gifts that Christ gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ” (Ephesians 4.11-13).  Already this is happening at St. Basil’s because of the great generosity of those who make up the parish and who are sharing their gifts in many ways.

My hope is that people—no matter their age or background—will continue to find at St. Basil’s a welcoming community where they feel at home to explore and deepen relationships with Jesus Christ and others and will find ways to use their gifts for the building up of the Church.  Let us all make a point to welcome and get to know each other so that our community faith may grow stronger.
