Mass/The Eucharist
The mass is the most well known form of public worship in the Roman Catholic Church. Our Mass schedule can be found on our Home page.
The mass, in itself, is not a prayer, but it includes of a number of different prayers.
- The Penitential Rite: at the beginning we acknowledge our sinfulness and pray for God’s forgiveness.
- The Opening Prayer
- Liturgy of the Word is a time for quiet listening to the scripture readings, the psalm and the homily. We then profess our faith by reciting the Creed, usually the Apostle’s Creed, although on certain days we use the Nicean Creed. Finally, we put forward the Prayers of the Faithful when we pray for the needs of the universal church, for public authorities and the salvation of the world, for those who are oppressed by any need, and for our local community.
- Liturgy of the Eucharist includes a number of different prayers, the Eucharistic Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer (the Our Father) and it culminates in Communion, the distribution of the Body of Christ to the gathered faithful.
- The Closing Prayer
The text of the various prayers can be found in the Sunday Missal or by clicking here. More information on the Roman Catholic Mass can be found by clicking here.
